FIFA issued a statement late Tuesday night confirming an investigation in Uruguay striker Luis Suarezs actions in his teams 1-0 win over Italy. Article 48 of the code is entitled "Misconduct against opponents or persons other than match officials," while Article 57 is called "Offensive behaviour and fair play" and states that "Anyone who insults someone in any way, especially by using offensive gestures or language, or who violates the principles of fair play or whose behaviour is unsporting in any other way may be subject to sanctions." Liverpools Suarez has already been suspended twice for biting an opponent in his career. As a member of Ajax in 2010, Suarez bit the shoulder of PSVs Otman Bakkal and received a two-game suspension from his club and an additional five-game ban from the Royal Dutch Football Association. In April of 2013, Suarez received a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. In between to the two biting bans, Suarez received an eight-match ban after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra in October of 2011.
